CampsTwo of Britain's longest running camps are Camp Shamrock in Northern Ireland and Camp Heatherbell in Scotland. The latter has been running since the early 1960's and has, for more than forty years, served children from throughout the British Isles. Today, Camp Heatherbell is under the oversight of the East Kilbride eldership and is directed by Adam Barr and Graham McDonald, preachers for the church of Christ, Cumbernauld. Adam grew up in the church and as a child attended camp each year. Many of today's staff were themselves campers once. In the 1980's, Camp Tayside began as an outreach to youth in the city of Dundee. Today, it serves many of the youth of church families from around Scotland and Britain. The value of Christian camps will likely never be fully appreciated on this side of heaven. Many Christians throughout Britain, and not a few around the world, began their study of the Bible at a Christian camp. The teachings of the Bible, sports, crafts and activities coupled with the love of dedicated Christians has touched so many lives, and continues to do so.
